Orthopedics

Orthopedics, which is a combination of the words orthos and paedia, means a straight (orthos) child (paedia). It is a medical specialty branch that mainly examines the musculoskeletal system and its problems, and aims to examine, prevent and treat congenital, acquired or traumatic lesions that change the morphology and function of the motor system of the body.

Branches of Orthopedics

Pediatric orthopedics

Pediatric orthopedics mostly deals with surgical procedures in children such as congenital deformities, developmental hip dysplasia (congenital hip dislocation), dwarfism, clubfoot (pes equinovarus) and height increase.

Arthroplasty

Arthroplasty deals with joint diseases. It gives the joint a painless range of motion by replacing joints that have undergone arthritic changes, usually with age or as a result of a trauma, with prostatic (artificial,  made of steel-titanium alloys) parts.

If medication, physical therapy and walkers do not relieve the patient's pain, increase the quality of life and do not provide a comfortable sleep at night, joint replacement surgery can be planned. The most common joint replacement surgery is knee replacement. If there is serious damage to the joints of the patient due to trauma or arthritis, simple daily activities such as walking and climbing stairs may be difficult.

Hand surgery

It deals with hand, wrist, forearm and elbow traumas and their diseases.

Spine surgery

It repairs spinal trauma, spinal tumors, spinal infections, and structural deformities such as scoliosis and kyphosis.

Arthroscopic surgery

It provides the treatment by entering with a camera through the small holes without opening the joints. It mainly treats joint rat removal, anteroposterior cruciate ligament surgery, meniscus lesions.

Foot-ankle surgery

As the name suggests, foot-ankle surgery deals with foot and ankle problems.

Oncological Orthopedics

It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all benign and malignant tumors that originate from the musculoskeletal system itself or spread from other organs.

Deformity Surgery

It deals with the correction of congenital or acquired deformities.
